Back & Sciatica Pain Relief Raleigh, NC

Sciatica is a common type of pain affecting the sciatic nerve, which extends from the lower back down each leg to the foot. Sciatica most commonly occurs when the spine compresses part of the nerve, causing various symptoms including pain down the lower half of the affected side of the body. The type of pain produced can range from a mild ache to a sharp, burning sensation or in some cases, can escalate to excruciating discomfort; however, symptoms are not limited to pain. They can be manifested in different forms such as numbness, tingling, weakness and difficulty moving the leg or foot.

Physical therapy can address and reduce these symptoms by way of multiple techniques including: postural education and correction, incorporating strengthening, stretching and aerobic activities, along with the use of various modalities. By educating the patient on proper alignment, we are able to not only find ways to increase comfort while in therapy, but also giving patients the knowledge they need to be able to maintain comfort throughout their daily lives. Once recommended alignment is achieved, it is crucial that it is maintained through strengthening and endurance training of core/postural muscles. Sciatica is an easily manageable disorder when coupled with appropriate exercises and patient education. For more information, Contact us at Raleigh, NC center.
